  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp oil

Method

  1. Soak the toor dal in water for about 30 minutes.
  2. Heat the oil in a pressure cooker and add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds.
  3. When the seeds start to splutter, add the chopped onion and green chillies and fry until the onions turn golden brown.
  4. Add the chopped tomato and fry for a few more minutes.
  5. Add the turmeric powder and red chilli powder and fry for a minute.
  6. Add the soaked toor dal and water to the pressure cooker.
  7. Add salt to taste.
  8. Cook the dal for about 20-25 minutes or until it is soft.
  9. Turn off the heat and wait for the pressure to release naturally.
  10. Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with rice.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of green chillies and red chilli powder according to your taste.
  • You can also add garlic and ginger paste for extra flavor.
  • You can add more water if you like a thinner consistency.
  • This dish can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
