- 1 cup basmati rice, washed and soaked for 30 minutes
- 2-3 tablespoons oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1 teaspoon garlic paste
- 1-2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
- 2 tablespoons green onion, chopped
Equipment
- A large pot with a lid
- A frying pan
- A spatula
- A knife and cutting board
Method
- Heat oil in a pot and fry chopped onions until golden brown.
- Add ginger and garlic paste and fry for a minute.
- Add chopped green chilies and cumin seeds and fry until fragrant.
- Add black pepper, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt to taste. Fry for a minute.
- Add soy sauce and tomato ketchup and mix well.
- Add soaked rice and fry for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add 1 and 1/2 cups of water and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and cook until the rice is done and the water is absorbed, around 15-20 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let the rice rest for 5 minutes.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.
Notes
You can use any type of rice for this recipe, but basmati rice is recommended for its flavor and fragrance. You can adjust the amount of spices and condiments to your liking.
