Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup of Beans (chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp of Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp of Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp of Urad Dal
  • 1/2 tsp of Chana Dal
  • 1/4 tsp of Turmeric Powder
  • 1/4 tsp of Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/4 tsp of Garam Masala Powder
  • 2 tbsp of Oil
  • Salt (to taste)

Equipment

  • A Pressure Cooker
  • A Pan
  • A Wooden Spoon
  • A Knife
  • A Cutting Board
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons

Method

  1. Wash the rice and soak it in water for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, urad dal and chana dal.
  3. Once the seeds start to splutter, add chopped onions and green chillies. Saute until the onions turn transparent.
  4. Add chopped vegetables and saute for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Drain the water from the soaked rice and add it to the pressure cooker along with the sauteed vegetables.
  6. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and salt. Mix well.
  7. Add coconut milk and water. Mix well.
  8. Cover the pressure cooker with a lid and cook for 2 whistles on medium flame.
  9. Once the pressure is released, open the lid and fluff the rice with a fork.
  10. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with raita or pickle.

Notes

  • Make sure to soak the rice for at least 10-15 minutes to get fluffy rice.
  • You can add any vegetables of your choice.
  • Adjust the spice level according to your taste.
  • You can also cook this dish in a regular pot instead of the pressure cooker.
