Description
Chinese Steamed Rice Noodle Rolls, also known as Cheung Fun, is a popular dim sum dish that originated from southern China. - 1 cup of rice flour
- 1/4 cup of tapioca starch
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 2 cups of water
- Filling of your choice (shrimp, pork, beef, etc.)
- Soy sauce
- Sesame oil
- Green onions, chopped
Equipment
- Steamer
- Cheesecloth or muslin cloth
Method
- In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, tapioca starch, salt, and water. Mix well until there are no lumps.
- Grease a shallow dish with oil, and pour a thin layer of the mixture into the dish.
- Steam the dish for 3-5 minutes, or until the mixture is cooked through.
- Remove the dish from the steamer and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Once cool, use a spatula to gently remove the cooked rice noodle sheet from the dish and place it on a damp cloth.
- Repeat steps 2-5 until all the rice flour mixture is used up.
- Cut the rice noodle sheets into 3x5 inch rectangles.
- Place the filling of your choice onto each rice noodle rectangle, and roll it up tightly.
- Steam the filled rice noodle rolls for 5-10 minutes, or until heated through.
- Remove from the steamer and garnish with soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onions.
Notes
When steaming the rice noodle sheets, make sure that the layer is thin enough so that it cooks through. If it is too thick, the middle may not cook properly. Additionally, make sure to grease the dish well so that the rice noodle sheet does not stick.Nutrition Info
