Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1 cup chickpeas (chole)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

Method

  1. Wash the rice and soak it in water for 20 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds.
  3. When the cumin seeds start crackling, add chopped onion and sauté till it turns golden brown.
  4. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  5. Add chopped tomato and green chilies and cook till the tomato turns soft.
  6. Add coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala powder and mix well.
  7. Add the soaked rice, 2 cups of water, and salt to taste. Mix well and pressure cook till 2 whistles.
  8. Meanwhile, heat oil in a frying pan and add chickpeas. Sauté for 5 minutes on medium flame.
  9. Add the cooked rice to the frying pan and mix well with chickpeas.
  10. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.

Notes

  • If you don't have a pressure cooker, you can also cook rice in a saucepan.
  • You can also add some lemon juice for a tangy taste.
  • If you want a spicier taste, you can add more red chili powder.
