Method
- Wash the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- Wash the toor dal and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil or ghee in a pressure cooker and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, and chana dal.
- Once the seeds start spluttering, add chopped onions, garlic, and ginger. Saute until the onions turn translucent.
- Add chopped tomatoes and green chillies. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft.
- Drain the water from the soaked rice and add it to the pressure cooker. Mix well.
- Drain the water from the soaked toor dal and add it to the pressure cooker. Mix well.
- Add turmeric powder and salt to taste. Mix well.
- Add 3-4 cups of water and mix well.
- Cover the pressure cooker with a lid and cook for 3-4 whistles on medium flame.
- Let the pressure release naturally and open the lid.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with papad or pickle.
